PET GUARDIAN

Though most comments in estate planning are directed at guardians for your children, what happens to your pets when you die. You cannot assume friends will be willing to simply step in and take care of your animal. Therefore a guardian(s) is necessary. Make sure the person is comfortable with the responsibility; write up agreement outlining the duties, what the pet's likes and dislikes are, etc. The format is similar for your directions to a person needing care after your demise. The statements may be included in your will or trust- and you probably should leave some money for the care as well.
